How To Help Save Lions With Lion Shirts

Unbeknown to most people, the lion population across Africa is rapidly depleting. There were over 1 million lions roaming the earth 2000 years ago. Since the 1940′s when lion numbers were estimated at 450,000, the population has been nearly wiped out across Africa. Recent reports into lion numbers have estimated as few as 20,000 animals remain in the region.

The reasons for the dramatic reduction in numbers is many cases is due to human growth in these areas. Sometimes this can come down to farmers protecting their livestock from lions looking to feed. Additionally, poaching and canned hunting is running rampant across Africa.

As well as this, there are a number of countries across the world involved in the illegal trade and keeping of lions. These lions can be treated with cruelty and used for entertainment in circuses and zoos. In many countries these aren’t regulated and many animals suffer because of this.

The important message here is that these numbers will keep falling unless change on the ground is initiated. There are a number of ways people can support the lions. A general search for organisations can lead to some excellent options. However one organisation that supports lions and has an extensive scientific research team that needs more funding is Panthera. They have created ‘Project Leonardo’ to help increase the numbers of lions in Africa and help locals to manage their lion problem with education, rather than lashing out against lions.

The main goal for Panthera that they have established is to raise the number of lions 150% percent over the next 15 years. This goal needs all the help they can get, so support them in any way that you can.

There are other organisations which are helping raise awareness and money for lion conservation in a more consumer friendly way. Many apparel brands are starting to donate portions of their profits toward charity organisations. So it’s important to always look for clothing companies or otherwise that state this somewhere, that way you can help out without an extra effort on your behalf. These companies aim is to spread awareness through their brand and hopefully this will remind those who wear them and come into contact with them about this problem.

Hopefully, these organisations, charity or apparel brands can be bolstered by the support of everyday people and can start to bring the mighty lions back from the brink of extinction across Africa. We don’t want a repeat of Cecil the lion and we don’t want another majestic creature removed from out planet. Lets stick together and put an end to the decline of Lions across the planet!
